impossible structures of a metropolitan dream
This series of photographs respond to the ongoing urban developments in Northern Ireland. The constructions documented are composite forms derived from building sites within Ireland. The objects presented seem fantastical; familiar and yet transmuted, imbuing the structures with a monumental quality that echoes a time when buildings were imbued with a cultural or religious significance beyond the purely utilitarian.
The post-conflict urban developments in Northern Ireland seem to the artists to have an added dimension of meaning in which normality is elevated to a state of aspiration. The buildings are architectural expressions of a transformed society and become temples of normality.
